Indian culture is enriched with core values of elegance
and simplicity. From dresses to food, anything and everything
is full of traditional values of poise, grace and ethnicity.
All Indian dresses like sarees, salwar kameez, lehngas
etc. every dress is designed to sensuous yet simple.
Most of these dresses like salwar kameez and lehngas
are worn along with Dupatta to impart that beauty and
charm to the personality of the wearer. Also, known
as ohrni and chunni, it is worn both by men and women.
In the Indian Men’s dresses, it is generally worn
with sherwanis and Kurta Pyjamas where as in the category
of Indian women dresses it is worn with Salwar Kameez,
Lehnga choli etc.
How to drape a dupatta:
Draping a saree or a chunri properly, depending upon
physique of the wearer can impart elegance to the dress.
Here are listed a few ways of wearing them:
- Center on back of neck and over both shoulders.
This style lends dimension to the length and uplifts
the silhouette.
- On both shoulders, U shaped centre on the chest.
This manner of draping the chunni lifts the face and
imparts a mature look to the wearer. It is the most
common style of wearing a duppatta.
- Over both shoulders, but the center instead of
U shape is kept closer to the neck. This way of draping
the chunni balances the features of the wearer and
imparts a fine outline to the dress.
- Sideways positioning of the chunni either on the
left or right gives a very royal, tall and elegant
look to the wearer. This style is generally opted
when the duppatta is of cotton fabric.
- Draped around head over the right shoulder and
then flows down on the same side. This style is very
famous in Pakistan and is generally opted while visiting
religious places. Another advantage is that this style
protects hair and face from direct sunlight. If not
draped over head and is simply kept around the neck
then this style is quite preferable for men with sherwanis.
- With knot at back, closer to neck and flows to
the front. This approach of draping a dupatta gives
a very sporty and tall look to the wearer. This style
is preferred by both men and women.
- Another very popular way of draping a dupatta is
that its ends are wrapped around hands and the center
is on the back side. This style is generally preferred
for functions and events.
